A Little About Myself...Hello, My name is Sabrina Super. I am an Elementary Education major at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Next year, I will be an intern working alongside an elementary mentor somewhere within the Fairbanks Northstar Borough District.
Before this class, I was already certain that technology was a resource that I was going to want to utilize in my classroom. After this class, I am beyond excited to use and share all that I have learned with my peers and my students. |
The Debate...
Educators everywhere are weary about implementing technology into their own classroom.
I think that the benefits outweigh the risks...
~Technology Engages Students
We often hear that technology can be a distraction. I think that this stems from the fact that youth these days are already so interested in their personal devices, it seems as though they can't focus on anything else. It's possible to harness this interest and use it for the educational development of our students.
~Technology Promotes Cross-Cultural Understanding
Using technology can open doors all around the world for your students. The internet can interconnect them to people millions of miles away. This idea brings a whole new meaning to the term "Pen Pal." Though email and video chat will never replace the intimacy of handwritten letters, students have access to communication in a whole new way. Not only this, but students also have all the information they can imagine at the touch of their fingertips. This allows students to find immense amounts of information about other cultures and other parts of the world within seconds. This benefit is also something that can and has been harnessed for educational purposes.
~Technology Greatly Benefits Struggling Students
Applications like text-to-speech abilities can be incredibly helpful for ESL students, students with specific learning disabilities, and even those students that are just auditory learners. Students that struggle with writing might choose to record their assignments using their voice and device instead. Conclusively, technology opens more doors for struggling students in all areas of education.
